Gallery Reception: Kaoru Kobayashi

The Frederick Harris Gallery invites Members to an evening of conversation over complimentary wine and canapés.

Kobayashi's exhibit showcases a harmony of shapes and vivid colors on paper, which draw inspiration from Art Nouveau curves and nature's forms.

Her graphical work, influenced by Antoni Gaudi's asymmetric designs, evokes memories of her nature-rich hometown in southern Akita prefecture and her travel experiences.

She finds beauty in the contrast between full and empty spaces on the paper, using intricate patterns to unify her compositions.

She has exhibited in Japan, France, the Netherlands and Spain, and has received honors that include the Tokyo Tower Art Fair Abstract Award.

Gallery Committee Reflections

We selected Kobayashi to exhibit at the Fred Harris Gallery to showcase her unique fusion of nature, traditional Japanese motifs and Art Nouveau aesthetics. Her work balances spontaneity and precision, capturing organic beauty with modern sensibility. Her international recognition demonstrates her ability to engage diverse audiences. We believe her art will offer a fresh and enriching visual experience for Members and guests.
