TAC Talk: The Beauty of Japanese Swords

Sharpen your knowledge about the weapons used by some of Japan’s greatest samurai.

Paul Martin, a former curator of the British Museum’s Japanese wing and current trustee of the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Sword Culture, will be sharing insights into the history of Japanese weapons.

His latest book, Japanese Swords and Armor: Masterpieces from Thirty of Japan’s Greatest Samurai Warriors, is a fascinating exploration of the development of the samurai class from the 10th to the 19th century, as seen through their arms and armor.

During his talk, Martin will give the audience a primer of how to understand Japanese swords, explain how to hold them and allow attendees the opportunity to view and hold genuine swords for themselves.

Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing at the end of the talk, and at the Library before the talk.
