Gojuryu is a close-range, self-defense martial art that is characterized by circular blocks, joint manipulations and kicking techniques to lower-body targets.
What will I learn in this class?
This class follows the curriculum of the International Karatedo Gojukai Association (IKGA) and includes training in kihon (basics), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). Dynamic tension and breathing are also taught.
What are the benefits of this class?
Students learn the traditions, practices and respect that characterize Japanese martial arts. The training methods and techniques learned can be used for self-defense as well as for strengthening the body and mind.
Who will teach this class?
Anthony Palumbo is an instructor at the Nihon Karatedo Gojukan and a fourth-dan instructor at the International Karatedo Gojukai Association (IKGA) and Japanese Karatedo Gojukai Association (JKGA). He first studied martial arts at the age of 5 in the United States and has been training at the IKGA and JKGA headquarters in Tokyo since 2007. He has instructed students of all ages in the US and Japan and started teaching at the Club in 2008. He has competed in local, national and international competitions.
