Gallery Reception: Maja Laerkholm

The Frederick Harris Gallery invites Members to an evening of discourse with Danish artist Maja Laerkholm over complimentary wine and canapés.

Laerkholm's exhibit showcases a blend of Danish minimalistic design principles and the intricate beauty of Japan’s cultural motifs, all through the lens of sustainable art created from recycled paper.

Her art, which includes both abstract and three-dimensional work, draws inspiration from her own experiences, moving from the cozy corners of Copenhagen to the bustling streets of Tokyo.

Embracing the philosophy of kintsugi, which uses lacquer to repair broken pottery, Laerkholm celebrates the beauty in making old things new again.

With exhibits in Denmark, the US and Japan, Laerkholm's achievements are incorporated in collections worldwide, including the Deloitte Denmark Headquarters and the Takanawa Gallery.

Laerkholm has also hosted two art classes at the Club in 2023 and 2024.

Artworks are available for purchase through Member Services.

Moment I realized I wanted to become an artist.
For the past six years, art was my hobby, but the positive response to my exhibitions in Denmark inspired me to pursue it more seriously.

What I would tell my 20-year-old self.
Dream big, dare to think outside the box and never stop working hard for what you think is fun.

My perfect creative environment.
When everyone else is asleep and I have no one to interrupt me or expect anything from me.

Artist, living or dead, I’d most like to share a meal with.
