Culture Connections

How does resilience fuel a medical professional’s career through unexpected twists and a global pandemic?

Hear from Dr. Kimihiko Oishi, Jikei University School of Medicine’s director of pediatrics, as he recounts his journey from a medical student in Tokyo to a seasoned pediatrician in New York.

This month’s Culture Connections covers how Dr. Oishi tackled global pediatric healthcare challenges, including lessons on handling genetic disorders and enhancing newborn screenings.

He will also discuss how healthcare differs between Japan and the United States, why certain practices are more effective and the best methods for managing crises like 9/11 and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The monthly Culture Connections events often feature a guest speaker. Previous presentations have covered such topics as mental health and the Japanese art of bonsai.
