Tokyo’s Contemporary Art: Roppongi Galleries

A tour de force of the most vibrant galleries in Tokyo’s most electric neighborhood.


What will I learn in this class?
Go behind Roppongi’s neon lights and visit a score of shoebox art spaces, including the Taka Ishii Gallery, the Tomio Komaya Gallery and a host of other heavyweights housing the works of Yayoi Kusama, Daido Moriyama, Takashi Murakami and many more.

What is the goal of this class?
Students will leave this class with a better understanding of the hot spots of Tokyo’s modern art scene and the best practices of finding and buying high-quality works.

Who teaches this class?
Noriko Kashiwagi is a certified art appraiser with degrees from Sophia University and New York University and experience leading tours for The Phillips Collection in Washington DC and the Noguchi Museum outside Manhattan. Kashiwagi also organizes exhibitions of emerging artists for the ANA Intercontinental Hotel in Akasaka.
