Club Member Doug Smith and his blind crewmate Hiro Iwamoto arrived in Japan in their 40-foot (12-meter) yacht on April 20 after crossing the Pacific Ocean from the United States.
Their “Voyage of Inspiration,” from San Diego to Fukushima, seems all the more remarkable considering Smith had only been sailing for two years before the pair casted off in February.
In this second lecture in the Culture, Community & Entertainment Committee’s Club Speaker Series, Smith will share the highs and lows of the more than 11,000-kilometer nonstop journey across the Pacific.
Before they set sail, Smith and Iwamoto talked about their ocean odyssey in the February issue of INTOUCH magazine.
