Discover the aesthetic process of creating beauty from imperfection.
In the first class, students will learn how to repair cracks and chips on plates provided by the instructor, before moving on to learn how to apply the painted finish. In the second and third weeks, students can use their new skills to repair their own treasured pieces that they want to repair and enhance through the beauty of a kintsugi finish. Crockery pieces can be provided to students who don't have their own pieces to repair.
Instructor
Michiko Kado Peryer’s grandmother was a tea ceremony teacher, so she was exposed to traditional Japanese arts from an early age. This led her to study pottery and ceramics at University in Tokyo. While she is also a licensed kimono teacher and Sogetsu style ikebana teacher, sharing the beautiful Japanese art of kintsugi with others is her passion.
