Take a reflective journey through color and light with Maki Takato at the Frederick Harris Gallery.
Hailing from the majestic mountains and verdant forests of Nagano, Takato has followed a diverse path through linguistics, dance, performing arts and philosophy—disciplines she intertwines in artworks that pull viewers into a world where past and present converge.
Her Silver Screen Series, on display this month, uses age-old techniques like yuzen and kintsugi to explore themes of emotion, memory and the passage of time.
“The artwork delicately illustrates the fleeting moments and layered emotions that coexist in our perception,” explains the Royal College of Art graduate. “Even if memories fade, I want to create something that will endure for future generations.”
