Gallery Reception: Yoko Yoshizawa

Yoko Yoshizawa came to art almost 30 years ago, but it took encounters of the wildest kind in the jungles and plains of Africa for her to find her true subject.

“Many years ago, I spent two months in Namibia and three months in Botswana as a member of a TV crew filming wildlife,” Yoshizawa says.

“Before long, I found human-like behaviors and sentiments in them. I see inner humans in animals.”

Yoshizawa’s exhibition, a blend of wildlife sketches and portraiture of her enigmatic subjects, opens with a reception at the Frederick Harris Gallery on April 9.
