Japanese Garden Walks: Western and Japanese Beauty in Harmony

Kyu Furukawa Gardens seamlessly blends characteristics of Western and Japanese gardens.

The Taisho-era estate features a British-style mansion and rose garden, designed by British architect Josiah Condor, and a Japanese strolling garden, designed by Jihei Ogawa.

This tour concludes with a visit to another Tokyo garden: Rikugien, built around 1700 for one of the Tokugawa shoguns.

Instructor: Kazuko Morio
Growing up in a house with a Japanese tea garden, where her grandmother taught tea ceremony, Kazuko enjoyed tending to the garden every day. She later developed her interest in gardens through study and her work as a certified guide and interpreter.
