What will I learn in this class?
Students learn the fundamentals of gojuryu karate, a martial art focused on circular blocks, joint locks and kicks. This program follows the curriculum of the International Karatedo Gojukai Association (IKGA). Classes include training in basics (kihon), forms (kata) and sparring (kumite). Students also learn examples of dynamic tension and breathing.
What are the benefits of this class?
Students learn the traditions, practices and respect that characterize Japanese martial arts. The training methods and techniques can be used for self-defense as well as for strengthening the body and mind.
Who will teach this class?
Anthony Palumbo is an instructor at the Nihon Karatedo Gojukan and a fourth-dan instructor at the International Karatedo Gojukai Association (IKGA) and Japanese Karatedo Gojukai Association (JKGA). He first studied martial arts at the age of 5 in the US and has been training at the IKGA and JKGA headquarters in Tokyo since 2007. He has instructed students of all ages in the US and Japan and started teaching at the Club in 2008. He has competed in local, national and international competitions.
