Chess for Kids (Winter-Spring)

A fun, rewarding, and engaging experience for kids to learn chess in a focused classroom setting.


What will I learn in this class?
Students learn the basics of chess in a focused classroom setting. Our chess instructor works individually with students to develop their chess ability.

What are the benefits of this class?
Playing and studying chess improves critical and strategic thinking. Students also work on pattern recognition, spatial awareness, intuition, organization, concentration, patience and decision making.

Who teaches the class?
Shinichiro Tanaka competed in national and international chess tournaments while growing up in Seattle, ranking in the top 10 in Washington state and, at one time, 21st in the US for his age group. While studying international business and economics at Sophia University, he tutored students in mathematics and chess.
