What will I learn in this class?
Students learn the gojuryu style of close-range, self-defense karate. Techniques focus on circular blocks, joint manipulations and kicks to lower-body targets. This class follows the curriculum of the International Karatedo Gojukai Association (IKGA) and includes training in kihon (basics), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). Students also improve dynamic tension and breathing skills.

The training methods and techniques of gojuryu karate can be used for self-defense, as well as for strengthening the body and mind.
Who will teach this class?
Anthony Palumbo is an instructor with the Nihon Karatedo Gojukan and a fourth-dan instructor with the International Karatedo Gojukai Association (IKGA) and Japanese Karatedo Gojukai Association (JKGA). He first studied martial arts at the age of five in the United States and has been training at the IKGA and JKGA headquarters in Tokyo since 2007. He has instructed students of all ages in the US and Japan and started teaching at the Club in 2008.
