Ahead of the holidays, two Japanese artists bring gift-worthy collections of intricate and authentic artwork to the Frederick Harris Gallery.
Takako Takeda handcrafts lifelike bisque dolls, a porcelain figurine popular among late 19th-century Parisians, replicating the fashions and jewelry of the period.
“Bisque dolls convey a unique loveliness and elegance,” says Takeda, whose creations have won international competitions.
The flower arrangements, accessories and ornaments of artist Satomi Kuze, inspired by the bouillon flower and nut ornamentations popular during Germany’s Bismarck era, also adorn gallery walls this month.
“I took this traditional craft,” says Kuze, a recent award winner at the Art Mirai International Art Exhibition, “and gave it a twist to appeal to the Japanese aesthetic.”
