Gallery Exhibition: Ryotaro Kato

Wabi-sabi: the beauty of the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete.

From March 31, Ryotaro Kato’s teaware and pottery exemplifies the classical Japanese aesthetic prizing the flaw over the flawless.

The Gifu Prefecture’s teacups trade symmetry for unique curves and polish for the inevitable erosion of time.

Born to a family well versed in forming, firing and finishing clay in states that evoke more than a pristine work ever could, Kato exhibits these masterworks of imperfection at the Frederick Harris Gallery through April 20.
