A master of Japanese calligraphy comes to the Club.
Through January 13 at the Frederick Harris Gallery, Ohnai Ishii’s celebrated calligraphic works present a window into traditional Japanese arts unlike most any Western tradition.
From the rhythmic brushstrokes that seem to pulse with energy to the rich inks of black, gold and vibrant crimson hues, Ishii’s masterful command of the brush blends the millennia-old principles of shodo with energetic pace and liveliness.
